The number one rule to remember when decorating a children’s room is: Kids don’t have rules. When designing a children’s bedroom you should always let your inner child out – they’ll want something completely different in a few years anyway. Unique aspects that are fun are always quintessential in children’s rooms. Things that can keep that engaged in a productive matter is even better.
The Walls
There are so many things you can put on the walls in children’s rooms. You can always use the reliable glow in the dark stars that have adorned ceilings and walls in children’s rooms for years. Better yet, if you have the time a mural or fun artwork can get added in a weekend with stencils.
Our personal favorite idea? Scratch off posters. Whether your kid likes visiting locations or watching certain movies, you can buy scratch off posters for every experience. Then every time your children achieve that experience or watch that movie, they get to scratch it off the list. It’s not only fun, but family friendly and gets your children’s imagination going – and yours!
The Lighting
We’ve recommended a few smart lights in other blogs – which honestly are a great addition to kids rooms, if not for the fact that when you say lights out it can literally turn their lights off. They’re also a lot of fun and kids designing their own color schemes can be an hour long affair every night, getting their creativity going. Imagine asking your children what color lighting they want before bed to get them excited to sleep? While it’s not recommended if you have multiple kids in one room due to the potential for arguments, if that issue doesn’t exist you have the green light. You can also add string lights to the molding because after all, who doesn’t love string lights at any age? Unique lamps and night lights should also make your idea list.
